The professional South Korean rapper and singer whose real name is Hong Da-bin stepped into his career not so long ago but has made a name for himself in the Korean music industry. He is notable as a member of an independent multi-genre, music and video group, Dream Perfect Regime (DPR) that creates, directs, and edits all types of visual work as well as curates artists stemming from a wide array of musical backgrounds and influences.

He shot to fame after his collaborations with many renowned Korean artists including PUNCHNELLO, Sik-K, Flowsik, and Owen Ovadoz in a song titled, ‘EUNG FREESTYLE’ which garnered over 16 million views on Youtube within one calendar year. His first extended play titled, ‘Coming To You Live’ released on 15th March, 2017 peaked at No. 14 on the US World Chart and No. 31 on Gaon Music Chart while his second extended play, ‘Her’ released on 7th December 2017 peaked at No. 8 on the US World Chart and No. 24 on the Gaon Music Chart.

1. Background Details

DPR LIVE was born as Hong Da-bin on 1st January 1993 in Pocheon, South Korea. At the age of five, his family relocated to Guam which is a United States island territory in Micronesia, Western Pacific where he lived until his tenth grade according to his interview with Billboard in March 2018. The identities of his parents and siblings (if any) are unknown as the gifted rapper has not divulged such information to the media except that his parents are Koreans. He is bilingual as he learned how to speak English at school and Korean from his parents.

The rap artist is the type that likes to keep information regarding his personal life under wraps, as such, his academic history is yet to be available on the media. However, he managed to disclose in an interview that he wasn’t a school fanatic while growing up as he disliked grammar, mathematics, and literature but loved subjects like history and biology. Even though he loved communication-related subjects, he would like to study philosophy or psychology at the university because he is naturally inclined to them.

2. His Korean Military Experience

A year after moving to South Korea, DPR LIVE enlisted in the Korean army to fulfill his two years of mandatory military service to his nation. Apart from learning patience and how to focus more and better while in the military service, he also used that opportunity to evaluate what he really wanted to do and become in life. Having developed a passion for writing while in the army, he began to compose song lyrics based on what is happening around him, his emotions and imaginations. By the time he was through with his military service, DPR LIVE turned his ardor for writing songs into a career and the rest is history.

3. DPR LIVE’s Early Career

Following his two years compulsory military service, DPR LIVE formed a collective that consists of his friends, DPR IAN (Christian Yu – a visual director), DPR REM (Scott Kim – creative director/executive producer), and DPR CLINE (Lee Sung-joo – DPR LIVE’s cousin). In order to raise money to kick-start his musical career, he went into visual production and his works can be seen in ‘Body’ music video by MINO from Winner, ‘HOLUP!’ by BOBBY from IKON, and ‘Wake Me Up’ by Taeyang from BIG BANG. With the help of his collective, DPR LIVE released his first single titled ‘Till I Die’ on SoundCloud on 27th July 2015 and then dropped the music video on 22nd August 2015.

Since the inception of his career, DPR LIVE has collaborated with several prominent artists. His song collaboration credits include ‘Know me’ feat. Dean, ‘Please’ feat. Kim Hyo-eun, G2, & Dumbfoundead, ‘Right Here Right Now’ feat. Loco & Jay Park, ‘Laputa’ feat. Crush, ‘Action’ feat. Gray, and ‘God Bless’ feat. PUNCHNELLO.
