How His Career as an Idol Began
Before becoming a part of Monsta X, he was a member of a project group that was formed under Starship Entertainment in 2014 called ‘Nu Boyz’ alongside Shownu, Wonho, and Gun). The group of 4 boys uploaded several mixtapes on their company’s Youtube channel and also performed at the Starship X concert in 2014. In December of the same year, Mnet and Starship Entertainment launched a competition program named No Mercy.
At the end of the competition, Jooheon, alongside six participants, was announced as winners and formed a new boy group for Starship Entertainment. They made their debut on the 14th of May 2015 with the EP titled Trespass. Asides writing lyrics and being involved in song production, Jooheon also likes to take part in the creation of their music video and creating the album jacket.
Jooheon Doesn’t Use Cologne
Despite being a young person and having access to funds to do as he pleases. Jooheon has remained his very humble self. For personal reasons, he doesn’t use the regular perfume or cologne instead, he uses a personally mixed fragrant baby powder. He just mixes his desired scent with baby powder.

The talented rapper has shown over time that he is very much in touch with his emotional side. His bandmates jocularly refer to him as the “Chicken Man” because he gets scared easily. In a recent V Live broadcast he held to interact with fans, a fan’s harsh comment about practicing his dance more instead of exercising almost caused him to burst into tears. Although he held his composure and responded that he will practice more.
Collaborations and Solo Career
One of the great parts of being a member of Monsta X is that the artists’ personal development is encouraged. Despite being a member of the group, Jooheon has done several collaborations, released some solo tracks and continues to pursue his dreams and aspirations on the side. In 2015, he auditioned for the Mnet’s rap competition series called Show Me the Money. Although he was eliminated in the 3rd round during the one on one battle when he went up against rapper Lee Hyun-Joon. He collaborated with Kihyun from his band for the soundtrack “Attracted Woman” on the album Orange Marmalade and also featured alongside Hyolyn and San E on the song “Coach Me”.
He released a solo music video in 2017 with the song “Rhythm”. In 2018, he released “DWTD” his first official mixtape along with a music video for the track “Red Carpet”. Later in the year, he released another music video for the song “Should I do”.
In attestation to his brilliance, Jooheon was one of the producers on the JTBC’s hip-hop competition program titled Tribe of Hip Hop, a co-host on MBC Every1’s Weekly Idol in 2016 and a Battle Rap Trainer on Mnet’s Produce X101 in 2019.
