Born George Wendt III in October of 1948, he is most known for his role of Norm Peterson on Cheers, a highly rated comedy show in the 1980s. He hails from Chicago and was born to Loretta and George, a realtor and navy officer. His grandfather on his mother’s side was famous photographer, Tom Howard. After being expelled from the University of Notre Dame (he received a GPA of 0 for his first semester of his junior year), he attended the Jesuit Rockhurst College in Kansas City. It was here that he earned in bachelor’s degree in economics. After college he went to join Chicago’s prestigious Second City comedy troupe, where he learned the art of improv. It was then that he began to take on on-screen roles, such as House, The Little Rascals, and Man of the House. His first on-screen performance was an uncredited role in Airplane 2: The Sequel. Wendt is married to fellow actor, Bernadette Birkett. Together they starred in the comedy, Never Too Late, in the New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park, Kansas from November 2013 to January 2014.
