Jeffrey Scot Tweedy was born in Belleville, Illinois in August 1967. Tweedy is best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the band Wilco. After high school Jeff joined the rockabilly band The Plebes with his friend Jay Farrar. The band changed their name to The Primitives in 1984 and later changed it to Uncle Tupelo. Tupelo released four albums before breaking up in 1994. Jeff formed the band Wilco in 1994. They have released eight albums. Tweedy has won two Grammy Awards for his work with Wilco, including Best Alternative Music Album for A Ghost Is Born. The album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was certified Gold and has sold over 650,000 copies. Tweedy has also been a part of the side projects Loose Fur and Golden Smog. He has published his own book of poetry. He has suffered from chronic migraines for his entire life which have forced him to use painkillers. He has had side effects from the medication and even had to enter rehab in 2004 and when he quit smoking it improved his health. He married Sue Miller in 1995 and the couple has two songs.
